ABOUT
Josette Wulffaert (she/her) is a registered Clinical Psychologist/Kaimātai Hinengaro in Pāpāmoa, Aotearoa New Zealand. She is an accredited EMDR practitioner with the EMDRNZ Association and currently EMDR Consultant in Training. She worked in public mental health care and then in 2021 she set up her private practice. Josette is passionate about empowering people in a respectful and validating way, as she finds that even approaching a therapist, let alone starting therapy, is a brave thing to do.
Josette is trained in the Netherlands and she graduated with her Master’s degree (with honours) in 2005 at Leiden University. She continued as a lecturer at Leiden University while also working as a psychologist at the university’s outpatient clinic “the Ambulatorium”. There, she provided specialised assessment and support for children, adolescents and their parents who often had experienced multiple unsuccessful treatments in the past. She obtained her PhD in 2010 at the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences, after which she continued her studies with a post-graduate degree in (the Dutch equivalent of) Clinical Psychology.

After this, she worked in the highly specialised and renowned service “de Viersprong” in the Netherlands for people with Personality Disorders. It was there that she found one of her core values: that the therapeutic relationship is the most important vehicle through which change can come. Josette has also been providing training and clinical supervision for health care professionals for over 10 years.
Josette relocated to the beautiful Tauranga Moana in 2018 with her husband and daughter. Their son was born in Aotearoa New Zealand. Josette loves living close to the moana and being able to enjoy this great, blue backyard. She understands the challenges that can come with having a busy life from a first hand perspective; juggling work and family life with time for your own passions and relaxation. She enjoys working together with people to find more compassion for themselves in finding this ever changing balance.
